Upon reading the brief for this project for the first time i initially felt ok about it, but then after giving it more time to think things through, i realised that this brief could be the perfect opportunity to bring another idea of work into the spot light. As before returning to university for this final year i had already spoke to Nathan and Moira about the possibilities of creating a body of work and cur rating an exhibition somewhere within the Preston area as part of a personal project, which would have no ties with university , giving us full freedom to express ourselves and learn off our own backs as so to speech. So this i felt could be such an opportunity, despite it having ties with university, in the sense that we shall be evaluated and marked on the work, we still have full freedom to do as we please, just like originally planned. The main factor to this brief which has allowed us to collaborate and work to gather is that the brief specifically states how that for this brief you can even hang work in a bar of pub. Which was one of a few of our primary concepts at the beginning of the summer just gone. I feel that this project could potentially be very successful because even though this is technically a project to be taken on an individual basis and that you are being marked for your own work and development etc I am still calibrating with two other students, of whom i get along with very well and shall enjoy the steps and times that follow, this makes the whole process more enjoyable and also in regards to exhibiting the work created, the fact that the showing of work is a joint effort, there is potentially a chance of attracting more people to the opening night. As there are now going to be three groups of family and friends. I would like to think that each of us should be able to have at least thirty people to attend the exhibition giving approximately 90 people to come. this figure doesn’t include the other people from university, and other various contacts who we wish to invite. So there is massive potential to hold a very successful and memorable evening. Which may not be the same for other students in the year who have decided to exhibit their work on their own. Also a massive factor which could help to increase the levels of attendance to the show is the fact that we wish to show are work in a non conventional way. Instead of opting for the likes of a clean cut gallery, we wish to display the works in a pub. This saves us the problem of supplying alcohol and nibbles for the guest, also this attracts more people to the chosen establishment. So in that sense both me, Moira, Nathan and the owner/landlord are winners and gain something from this experience. So upon first thoughts of this brief i am very excited indeed and feel that this could be a very successful personal experience.
